Task
This webquest is designed for students taking American/National Government (GOV 100 at NMSU-Carlsbad). In this webquest, you will research a specific area of the state as if you are running for United States Senator. You will then develop a campaign strategy, using the media. You must keep in mind the usual voter turn-out (research the demographics of your area) and should try to pursuade those who do not normally vote to 1) vote and 2) vote for you. A budget of only $2 million is allowed for the campaign. You should be prepared to justify your decisions in using the media and all campaign decisions. You will prepare the following documents to be presented to the class for a grade:
- One campaign brochure or advertisement (print)
- One campaign budget worksheet
- One campaign speech encouraging non-voters to vote and why they should vote for that student
- A list of the media needed for the campaign and what type of advertisement/announcement will be used
To prepare your assignment, you can use any of the Microsoft Office products which are on all campus computers. It must be in MS Office format in order to receive a grade. Possibly products are: Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel. Microsoft FrontPage would also be acceptable. Any graphics turned in must be in either gif or jpg format.
At your in-class presentation, you will also turn in a CD and a hard-copy of all the assignments in a neat portfolio. This portfolio should have a professional appearance. You only need one CD and one portfolio for your group.
