Process
To begin, you will be assigned to a group of four people. You can organize your group in whichever way you think is the most effective. One way might to assign each person a specific portion of the WebQuest (i.e. one person on the budget, one person on the ad, etc.). Another way might to each do a portion of each assignment. You can decide.
Here are some guidelines and suggestions for each part of the assignment.
One campaign brochure or advertisement (print)
- Google "effective advertising".
- Google the meanings of colors in advertising.
- Research effective political campaigning from previous campaigns.
One campaign budget worksheet
- Google campaign budget
- Research the cost of the following information, at the minimum (there is
more that needs to make up your budget worksheet):
- Press secretary
- Advertising
- Travel
- Food
- Lodging while campaigning
- Discuss budgeting with an accounting instructor or local accountant
One campaign speech
- Research speech writing
- Research argumentative writing
- Research effective presentations
- Interview the theater instructor on how to present an effective oral persuasive speech
A list of the media needed for the campaign and the cost of the advertising suggested
- Google local media websites
- Contact the media and ask how much it would cost to advertise with them for a political campaign.
- Research press releases - what are they? can you use this?
In order to complete those tasks, you will also need to know the following information:
- Demographics of your political district
- The last voter turn-out
- The political parties that are prevalent in your district
- What the major issues are in your precinct (what makes people want to vote?)
